Man's Enemies
LORD's Day Worship - Feb 9, 2020
Three enemies of man:
1) the devil (satan)
2) self
3) each other
Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? (2 Cor 6:14)
If Thou be the Son of God, cast Thyself down: for it is written, He shall give His angels charge concerning Thee: and in their hands they shall bear Thee up...(Matt 4:6)
Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God. (Matt 4:7)
No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper… (Isaiah 54:17)
For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil. (Gen 3:5)
Make us gods, which shall go before us… (Exodus 32:23)
gods in this world, want to get us away from God Almighty
...and they want to be worshipped
…that which is highly esteemed among men is abomination in the sight of God. (Luke 16:15)
And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat. (Gen 3:6)
Enemies of lust and influence
Hell and destruction are never full; so the eyes of man are never satisfied. (Prov 27:20)
…the eye is not satisfied with seeing, nor the ear filled with hearing. (Ecc 1:8)
We're influenced by what we hear and what we see
...Let my people go...(Exodus 5:1, 7:16, 8:1, 8:8, 8:20, 8:21, 9:1, 9:13, 10:3, 10:4)
And Pharaoh said, Who is the LORD, that I should obey his voice…I know not the LORD… (Exodus 5:2)
And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons. And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden. And the LORD God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou? (Gen 3:7-9)
Enemy of deceit
And he said, I heard Thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself. And he said, Who told thee that thou wast naked? Hast thou eaten of the tree, whereof I commanded thee that thou shouldest not eat? And the man said, The woman whom Thou gavest to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I did eat. (Gen 3:10-12)
Enemy of blame and excuse
And the LORD God said unto the woman, What is this that thou hast done? And the woman said, The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat. (Gen 3:13)
Learn your enemies to keep from falling
And the LORD God said unto the woman, What is this that thou hast done? And the woman said, The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat. (Gen 3:13)
…your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour (1 Peter 5:8)
He that committeth sin is of the devil… (1 John 3:8)
For we dare not make ourselves of the number, or compare ourselves with some that commend themselves: but they measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise. But we will not boast of things without our measure, but according to the measure of the rule which God hath distributed to us, a measure to reach even unto you. (2 Cor 10:12-13)
Not boasting of things without our measure, that is, of other men's labors; but having hope, when your faith is increased, that we shall be enlarged by you according to our rule abundantly, (2 Cor 10:15)
Attributes of Cain: Careless, Dishonest, Not trustworthy, Jealousy, Murder
Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. (Eph 6:10-11)
Be strong in the Lord
For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. (Eph 6:12)
Whosoever therefore shall confess Me before men, him will I confess also before My Father which is in heaven. But whosoever shall deny Me before men, him will I also deny before My Father which is in heaven. Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword. For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law. And a man's foes shall be they of his own household. He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. (Matt 10:32-37)
A Christian life is in the world, but not of the world
And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after Me, is not worthy of Me. He that findeth his life shall lose it: and he that loseth his life for My sake shall find it. (Matt 10:38-39)
